Yangzhou has been a hot land for foreign investment. By the end of December 2005, nearly 2000 foreign businessmen and enterprises from Hongkong and Macao have settled in Yangzhou, mainly from Hongkong, Taiwan, Macao, USA, Japan, Singapore, Europe, Canada, Korea and other Asian countries. There have been a dozen of top 500 world enterprises settled in it. Yangzhou is also one of the fastest developing cities in China in terms of economy. Local GDP in 2005 amounted to 92.2 billion Yuan, 15% higher than the previous year. GDP per capita exceeded 20,000 Yuan. The total import and export volume in 2005 reached US$ 2.79 billion, among which total export volume amounted to US$ 1.905, separately 15.4% and 41% higher than the previous year.
      In 2005, Yangzhou had attracted the contracted capital of US$ 2.43 billion and actually taken use of the foreign capital of US$ 1.25 billion according to the old statistics and US$ 0.53 billion according to the new statistics. Yangzhou has been developing in high speed in its economy and become a modern newly developed industrial city with the most vitality in China. The local GDP has taken the lead in the middle of Jiangsu province.
